Low density
Despite some disadvantageous properties such as low tensile strength and melting point, aluminium can be used in special fields as substitute for copper which is heavier in view of its higher specific weight.
Application
Due to its low specific weight, aluminium is frequently applied in the automotive industry. The weight advantage along with high thermal conductivity offers decisive advantages. Therefore, heat exchanger tubes in aluminium are also used for the cooling of turbocharger air or servo oil. They are also used in process engineering for laser gas cooling. Another major application are condensing boilers in the heating industry.
WICOATEC®-coating
As the generated condensate has a very aggressive and corrosive effect on the materials used, there is the possibility to extend the lifetime of such condenser tubes significantly using the WICOATEC CVD coating developed by Wieland.
