Wieland-K65 is a high-strength copper alloy with a considerably higher thermal conductivity than that of stainless steel or aluminium. This alloy is particularly suitable for heat-exchanger tubes and has good processing properties. K65 tubes have been developed in line with the trend towards natural refrigerants CO2 and the resulting higher pressures.

Now fittings available
In addition to the tubes in K65 that can already be delivered in series, fittings made of this high-strength material are now also available. Already at the ISH in Frankfurt the cooperation with our partner, Conex | Bänninger, has been presented.
The fitting components have been developed for applications with operating pressures up to 120 bar.
K65 is, therefore,
particularly suitable for use as high-pressure piping systems for the natural refrigerant CO2. Application examples are refrigeration systems in supermarkets or heat pumps.
So, K65 is now available as "system solution".

Light, pressure- and high-temperature resistant
With these characteristics our all-rounder Wieland-K65 follows the trend towards natural refrigerants and with its low weight it counteracts the ever rising copper prices. In addition, K65 has very good processing properties.
High strength alloy
K65 - CuFe2P according to EN12449 - is a high-strength copper alloy with approximately 2 % iron. Known for many years in the automotive and electrical industries, it is now also being used in air conditioning and refrigeration. This alloy is characterised by very high thermal conductivity (factor 20 compared to stainless steel or factor 2 compared to aluminium). It is, therefore, particularly suitable as heat exchanger tube. Especially in the field of heat pumps and industrial refrigeration units there is great potential for K65. The good processing properties of K65 are similar to those of Cu-DHP. The corrosion resistance of K65 is equivalent to that of high purity copper. This makes K65 the first choice for connecting tubes.
Light means low priced
The main advantage of K65, however, lies in its mechanical strength: depending on the dimension and pressure, a reduction in wall thickness and consequently weight per metre by up to 40 % is possible compared to Cu-DHP. For example, in the case of a 3/8“ tube in CO2 refrigeration units with supercritical operation this means a reduction in wall thickness from 1.12 mm for copper to approx. 0.64 mm for K65. This significantly reduces material input on the one hand, and on the other saves money.
