Copper and copper alloys have for thousands of years also been known for their antimicrobial effect.
For example, copper has been used for the treatment of wounds and skin diseases and also as money to limit disease transmission.
In the battle against bacteria, additional research has in recent years been done regarding its antimicrobial property.
Copper's antimicrobial effectiveness has now been confirmed in comprehensive laboratory- and field tests.
Copper is not only suitable for use in contact surfaces such as hand rails and door handles, but has also proved suitable for use in certain heat exchangers.
While in Asia such 100 % copper heat exchangers have been successfully used for some time, there are now also manufacturers of 100 % copper fin coil heat exchangers in Europe. The French manufacturer Hydronic, a customer of Wieland-Thermalsolutions, is following the trend and has developed a solution for improving the air quality, for example in hospitals.
For this product, the manufacturer is, therefore, allowed to use the Antimicrobial Copper brand and Cu+ mark of the International Copper Association (ICA) and the Copper Development Association Inc. (CDA).
As an active development partner and approved manufacturer of semi-finished products, Wieland-Group, too, is allowed to use the Antimicrobial Copper brand and Cu+ mark.
Further information on the antimicrobial properties of copper and copper alloys is available from www.antimicrobialcopper.org or your contact person at Wieland.
